MMORPGs and online RPs vs. Real Life.

I've had issues where I get so sucked into the world of MMORPGs and RPs that I ignore other things, like what I should be doing. This creates no end of issues IRL. What are your experiences with this topic? What's the line? Have you had to set limits for yourself? Have you had relationships break down because of it?

[ This is cross-posted to my rl LJ. I'll get to the cute and fuzzy drabbles when I have time later tonight! ]
  • Hm.. kind of. My ex-girlfriend got angry at World of Warcraft because she hated it and all there was for her was Ragnarok Online. *lol*

I too get sucked in very easily. WoW is horrible. I want to play for one hour and still sit there 2 hours later.
But I don't think it caused me much RL problems.. I only play when I have really the time too. But the more you are involved with people there the harder it becomes.. I understand people in guilds playing.. there is a certain responsibility non-players don't seem to understand. I see it as another way of socializing.. I mean you play together with other REAL people, you just don't see them. (But talk to them if you use TS) ... and to tell the truth I think this is better then getting pissed drunk and sleep in your puke. :x
But I do agree that it might become problematic if you start to neglect other business too much.
  • There way an essay in the newpapers only a short while ago, about internet and morpg addciton and what dire consequences it might have/already had on some people...
